Originally from New Zealand, Burton has more than 20 years experience in general manager roles with the last five years being in China.
Prior to coming to Shanghai, he was opening general manager of the Crowne Plaza City Center Changsha.
He has also held general manager posts in Guangzhou and Port Moresby with InterContinental Hotel Group properties.
