Hotel fire causes panic in Turkish resort town of Bodrum

A fire that erupted early Thursday at the sauna of a hotel in the Mediterranean resort town Bodrum caused panic among the hotel’s guests.

The fire at the four-star, 86-room Royal Palm Area Hotel in Gümbet district broke out around 2 a.m. The hotel staff quickly evacuated 30 tourists at the hotel as smoke filled the corridors. No injuries were reported due to the fire, which is suspected to have been caused by a failure in the electric circuit.

Cemil Sönmez, a hotel guest, said they were woken up by the hotel staff and asked to leave the rooms. “We had a small panic, but the firefighters arrived quickly and did not let the fire get bigger,” he said.

The guests of the hotel were moved to another facility, and the police have launched an investigation into the fire. One man was killed and 11 people were injured in a hotel fire that burned down a hotel in central Bodrum earlier this month.
