Heritage hotel owners will meet in Jodhpur for the ninth annual general meeting of the Indian Heritage Hotels Association (IHHA). The meeting will be held at Umaid Bhawan in Jodhpur tomorrow. This was stated by Randhir Vikram Singh Mandawa, General Secretary, IHHA. The meeting will be chaired by Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur, President, IHHA.
According to a report in The Times of India, Mandawa said that elections to the executive committee and office-bearers for the third five-year term (2011-2015) of the association will also be held during the meeting. Mandawa said that there are 162 members in IHHA today, which was formed in 1990 with just 14 members. Presently, the heritage hotels cover running hotels in palaces, castles, forts, havelis, lodges or residences built prior to 1935.
Mandawa said that the heritage tourism has become a movement and has promoted rural tourism in a big way. These hotels have given a fillip to local tradition, rural games and sports, fairs and festivals and the overall development of rural areas.
