A female guest to a Hyatt Hotel in Deerfield, Illinois over the summer is suing the company after she caught one of its staff members wearing her clothes, including her underwear. The guest is said to have been visiting the town for a wedding at the time of the incident, which happened on June 6.
According to a filed complaint with police, Dayanara Fernandez from Los Angeles says that the man, named as Oscar Garcia-Franco, was wearing one of her skirts and a pair of heels with a Hyatt shirt. As he ran into the bathroom, he didn’t completely close the door, and this is when she noticed that he was wearing her underwear as well. The man changed his clothes back and handed her back her items, which included many pairs of underwear.
The 36-year-old hotel guest told the hotel’s management of the issue. The police were called, and the man was charged with disorderly conduct. Later he pleaded guilty in Los Angeles Superior Court to the charge and was fined $187, including court costs, and ordered to serve 90 days of court supervision.
Now Fernandez is suing Hyatt Hotels for emotional distress, invasion of privacy, and negligence of hiring, supervision and/or training. She has hired Stephanie Sperber to represent her. The lawyer says that she tried to resolve her client’s claim without going to court. However, Hyatt hasn’t acknowledged Fernandez’s emotional distress, she explained. A spokesman for Hyatt Hotels says that the company can’t comment on the lawsuit, as it hasn’t seen the complaint.
