Roots Corporation Limited (RCL), subsidiary of Indian Hotels Company, which manages the budget hotel brand Ginger, plans to open 60 to 70 budget hotels at 23 locations across India.
The first of these hotels has been launched at IITM Research Park in Tharamani, Chennai. Ginger Chennai has 80 rooms. Besides catering to the needs of companies that are operational in Research Park, it would also serve other companies based on OMR (including in Tidel Park).
“Roots Corporation is already constructing budget hotels in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Indore, Amritsar, Tirupur (Tamil Nadu) and Jaipur. All these hotels put together would have 700 rooms,” said Prabhat Pani, CEO and Director, Roots Corporation Limited.
As reported by The Hindu, RCL earlier aimed at acquiring the land and construct these budget hotels, which they had done in Puducherry. However, the increased real estate and operational costs forced the company to locate these hotels on leased accommodations in places such as retail malls, research institutions, and government institutions among others.
