Accor posts record year for expansion in Asia Pacific

ccor posted its most successful year for Asia Pacific expansion in 2010, signing more than 70 new development contracts that will add more than 16,000 guestrooms to its portfolio.

The group opened 41 hotels in Asia Pacific last year, adding about 7,000 guestrooms. The results ensure that Paris-based Accor remains the most prolific hotel operator in the region, with more than 430 hotels and 83,000 guestrooms under management.

Accor is committed to continued expansion in the region, particularly in the key markets of China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. “Accor employs an ‘asset right’ strategy in the Asia Pacific region, with selective investment in the economy sector and mainly in China and India, and management contracts throughout most other markets,” says Michael Issenberg chairman and chief operating officer for Accor Asia Pacific. “In the mature hotel market of Australia, we are predominantly expanding through a successful franchise strategy.”
