The fire broke out in at heating unit in a guest room on the 24th floor around 4:30 p.m., fire officials said.
Video from a DOT traffic camera showed flames shooting from a window of the 40-story building, visible to a large portion of downtown and passing traffic on I-5. But the fire appeared to be put out about 15 minutes later and officials said the fire was contained to the guest room.
"When (firefighters) got in there, it was a fire on the exterior wall," said Sue Stangl with the Seattle Fire Department. "The heat broke the windows and the heat and the smoke exited the window quite easily so when the firefighters arrived there was very little smoke, very little heat, and they were able to put the fire out easily and quickly."
A person who works at the front desk of the hotel told our Seattle sister radio station, KOMO NewsRadio, that hey evacuated everyone from the 24th floor on up as a precaution.
No one was reportedly hurt.
