Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: HOT) announced today that the owners of the Liberty Hotel in Boston have signed a license agreement for the award winning historic property making the Liberty the 100th property to join Starwood’s Luxury Brands: St. Regis & The Luxury Collection, and its first in Boston. With this milestone, Starwood continues to stand out as the world’s leader in luxury hospitality with more hotels in more markets than any competitors in this segment, offering guests exceptional service levels and luxury experiences in a wide range of destinations across the globe.
“With the building’s rich storied past and mysterious character, The Liberty is destined to be a coveted destination for global travellers and an unparalleled way to discover Boston.”
The hotel is owned by a joint venture between HEI Hotels & Resorts (HEI), the nation’s fastest growing private owner/operator of hotel real estate, and Cambridge, Mass.-based Carpenter & Company, Inc., the original hotel developer and co-owner of the Liberty. HEI also operates the property.
The Luxury Collection brand is a diverse ensemble of more than 75 of the world’s finest hotels and resorts in more than 30 countries. All of these hotels, many of them centuries old, are internationally recognized as being among the world’s finest. As a National Historic Landmark built in 1851, The Liberty Hotel is the perfect fit for The Luxury Collection. Once the storied Charles Street Jail, the hotel is named one of the top U.S. hotels in Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards. With its unique ability to marry architectural authenticity with the high standards of refined, modern travel, The Liberty is New England’s premier luxury destination.
"With the addition of the Liberty to Starwood's Luxury Collection, we are thrilled to expand on our relationship with both Carpenter and Company and HEI Hotels. Starwood remains focused on growing relationships with the right properties, in the right places, and with the right partners, and this transaction is a terrific example of that focus" said Paul Sacco, Sr. Vice President, North American Development, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
