Hotels in Kolkata to store guest's data online

Hotels in Kolkata will henceforth retain photographs of all customers along with their details. According to a report in The Times of India, soon after one checks into a hotel, the photograph and details get stored online in Kolkata Police's server instantly. Initially, this was started for foreigners to keep track of them. But now, it is applicable to all occupants.

Kolkata police sources said, like foreigners, now Indians would also be under similar vigil. A few months ago, Kolkata Police had adopted a monitoring software to keep track of foreigners in the city. The mechanism developed by a Kolkata─based company was installed in a few hotels on an experimental basis for instant submission of the C form, mandatory for all foreigners.

Earlier hoteliers used to submit the C form to police, but it was a difficult task for cops to find out details of a visitor when required. “Often, we need information about a foreigner instantly. But from a heap of documents, it was difficult to find that out.
