Only Rs 80,000 suites for World Cup final

If you plan to book a hotel room near the Wankhede Stadium for the World Cup cricket final to be held in Mumbai on April 2, be ready to shell out over Rs 80,000 per night.
Five-star hotels in south Mumbai that are in close proximity to the stadium do not have any club level rooms or deluxe rooms on offer, forcing die-hard cricket fans to choose from the ultra-expensive suites at the Trident Hotel or the Oberoi.

When contacted, the reservation counters of five-star hotels, including The Oberoi and Trident, told Financial Chronicle that there were no rooms available for April 1 and 2. Other hotels such as InterContinental Marine Drive, Marine Plaza and The Ambassador also said they have sold out their rooms for these days. Official websites of all these hotels said, “No rooms available / hotel sold out”. East India Hotels that owns the Oberoi group of hotels, did not respond to the email query sent on Monday.

The Taj Mahal Palace and Vivanta by Taj in south Mumbai, which together have a room inventory of 852 rooms and suites, have raised rates at the two properties. For deluxe rooms, the rates have gone up to Rs 25,750-35,000 per night, excluding taxes, from around Rs 12,000 per night. The Taj spokesperson was not available for comments even after repeated efforts by FC.
