Oberoi expansion driven by management deals

Expansion of The Oberoi Group and its EIH Ltd. will come primarily from management contracts, including in Europe, where the India luxury hotel firm is actively seeking opportunities.

Oberoi has five projects in the pipeline—mostly under management agreements—in addition to the 202-key Oberoi Gurgaon, which opened Tuesday and is also managed by the group.

Next year, the group will open a new 320-key hotel in Hyderabad, followed by a 250-key property in Dubai. A second property with 220 guestrooms is slated to open in Hyderabad a year later, and Oberoi will debut in Marrakesh in 2014 with an 84-key hotel. A 70-key project is also in the plans for Oman, although it remains without an opening target.

Chief Planning Officer Arjun Oberoi, nephew of Chairman PRS “Biki” Oberoi, confirms that the company remains interested in expanding to Europe, and would do so only with management deals. "We are very actively looking at Europe but nothing has been finalized,” Arjun Oberoi tells The Economic Times.
