Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, one of the luxury hotel chain operators in the world, said yesterday that it would open at least 20 outlets in mainland China in the next five years.
Shangri-La takes a ownerships in a majority of the hotels under its management or under construction, while most of its peers choose to dip toe in hotel management and stay away from investment in the mainland. The company runs 32 hotels in the mainland at the moment.
Shangri-La, which operates hotels under the brand names of Shangri-La, Kerry, and Traders in China, plans to boost such a business model around the world next year.
Separately, the hotel operator signed a cooperation agreement with Ctrip.com International, Ltd. (CTRP) on the day for the launch of a Shangri-La online hotel reservation platform in the mainland. The two partners will expand their collaboration in hotel management and high-end tourism services in the future.
