KUNMING, CHINA Sofitel Luxury Hotels expects to open a new 405-key hotel Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, in early 2014.
Sofitel Kunming is being developed by Kunming Iron & Steel Holding Co. Ltd. and will occupy 28 floors of the 50-story building, including the top 24. The rest of the building will become the headquarters of Kunming Iron & Steel's parent company, KunSteel.
The hotel will feature three restaurants and two bars, a large ballroom and eight meeting rooms, a So Spa, a fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, an executive lounge and a business center.
Located downtown and near to multiple cultural sites, the hotel will target both leisure and business travelers.
"We look forward to opening this new Sofitel in Kunming, the biggest city of the southwest frontier of China and one which is famous for its rich history, culture and tourism," says Markland Blaiklock, senior vice president of Sofitel Asia Pacific. "With this additional presence, Sofitel Luxury Hotels will have a total of 27 hotels in Greater China, including upcoming projects in Sanya, Haikou and Lianyungang, which will come online in the next three years."
