Organic India, an international company having its headquarter in Lucknow, plans to diversify and expand its farm base across India in the coming years. The Rs 60-crore company is into farming, processing, packaging and distributing organic farm products, ayurvedic medicinal formulations and syrups.
Its flagship product, Tulsi Tea, has already marked its presence both in the domestic and international market and also across various hotel chains across the globe. The company today boasts 18 varieties of Tulsi Tea, 26 ayurvedic medicinal formulations, six syrups, ghee from stress-free cows and a range of spices and other commodities, which they export to more than 30 countries across the world, as well as distribute in the domestic market.
According to Krishan Guptaa, Managing Director and Global CEO, Organic India, growing awareness about healthy food world over is creating a huge demand for organic food products and health supplements across the globe. In order to cater to the growing demand, the company is planning to expand its cluster farm base in different parts of the country including Uttar Pradesh (UP). The company has around 50,000 hectares of farm land under contract farming in UP alone, especially in Azamgarh and Bundelkhand areas, besides 20 acres research farm in Lucknow.
Guptaa further said that the company is conducting feasibility tests in Padrona, UP, as well as in some areas of Maharashtra for organic farming. “We have plans to enter into Maharashtra and currently doing some projects on organic farming with Nagpur University to identify areas,” he said. Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh is another major destination that Organic India has zeroed in for cultivating mango. Organic India is today an exclusive supplier of dehydrated mangoes to overseas market, especially the US. The company has set up a plant in Chittoor with a capacity of 200 tonnes of dehydrated mangoes. “We are working closely with an NGO, which has engaged 5,000 tribals for cultivating mango in Chittoor district,” he said. Organic India has farms in Surat and Vadodara in Gujarat and Jodhpur and Sirohi in Rajasthan as well.
