Following its foray into the hospitality industry a year ago with a resort at Vikramgad in Maharashtra, Greenarth Leisure Pvt. Ltd. (GLPL) (hospitality arm of Disha Direct Ventures Pvt Ltd), targets 5000 members by end of 2012. Currently, GLPL has 500 members. Memberships at Greenarth Resorts are for 10 years, and start at Rs 30,000. According to Santosh Naik, MD & CEO, GLPL, the company aims at providing affordable accommodation in the leisure segment with four-star services and be the number one leisure player in Maharashtra by 2015.
Furthermore, the company is targeting to operate 30 resorts by 2015. GLPL is looking at developing five resorts, including Greenarth Riverside at Wada, Greenarth Orchid at Alibaug, Greenarth Bollywood Blues at Karjat, Greenarth Tierra at Roha and Greenarth Life at Kasara in the next eight to nine months. “All our resorts will be owned and managed by GLPL and have 25 rooms and a multi-cuisine restaurant. The approximate investment at each resort would be Rs six crore (excluding land cost). Every resort is based on a certain theme and will offer an array of outdoor and indoor activities. Besides, we are also looking at taking up land on lease in Mahabaleshwar and Tapoli in Maharashtra, and in the Northern part of Goa, for further developments,” said Subodh Gupte, AVP Operations & Leisure Friend, GLPL. Naik further informed, “Greenarth is a chain of leisure resorts that combines the experience of a club, recreation and holiday resort, with activities that bring guests close to nature. We are the leading players in the second home market in Maharashtra and want to leverage on this to grow our leisure segment. Through Greenarth Leisure, we aim to provide weekend homes to our guests. In addition to memberships, we also welcome free individual travellers, which will increase our business.” Talking about the marketing initiatives, Gupte said, “Five per cent of our budget is allocated to marketing activities. We will be actively promoting our resorts through online marketing and social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Google+. Also, we would be closely working with travel agents and tour operators and will provide a 20 per cent commission to them on their bookings.” GLPL also believes in contributing towards society and nature at large. Gupte stated, “We hire the locals and train them to work at our resorts. All the staff at our resorts are trained as per the hospitality standards to service the guest. In addition, we are a plastic-free resort and use solar heater and have facilities for rainwater harvesting.”
