Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) has launched a two-year hospitality trade programme, free of cost, for youth from families below poverty line. To start with, 41 candidates who passed 10th standard have been selected for the first batch of the training at the Skill Certification Centre, inaugurated by A P Anil Kumar, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister, Government of Kerala. They would be imparted on-job training in food and beverages production and services including house keeping.
After completing the course, the candidates would be absorbed in IHCL properties in India on merit basis. According to a report in IBN Live, the candidates would be given a monthly stipend of Rs 2500 in the fist year and Rs 3000 the second year besides providing food, accommodation and uniform. Addressing the trainees,the Minister said it was for the candidates to utilise the rare opportunity fully as tourism and hotel industry in Kerala and the country was on a high growth trend. "The philosophy of skill certification centres evolves from the Taj's vision influencing standards of excellence in the art of hospitality through talent and expertise,” said H N Sreenivas, Senior Vice President - HR and Business Excellence, IHCL. The programme has been arranged as part of the group's Corporate Social Responsibility project.
