After the success of its Hotel Excellence (HE!) programme in India, Marriott International, in partnership with Kuoni Academy, is planning to roll out another online training programme, Meetings Excellence by Marriott, in the India market soon. Speaking about the new training programme at the convocation of the first batch of HE! Programme pass-outs at Kuoni Academy’s New Delhi centre, Ramesh Daryanani, Regional Director, Global Sales – India, Marriott, said that the objective of the programme is to provide “well-rounded” knowledge of the various segments of the travel industry to budding professionals who plan to have a career in this industry.
“The travel industry is growing and we feel that there is a need for well-trained and knowledgeable professionals to handle various aspects of travel in the market,” he said. Daryanani said that the Meetings Excellence programme, which was launched two years ago, has already trained almost 6,000 working professionals. “The MICE segment is quite buoyant in India and everyone, from the smaller agencies to the bigger ones, is focusing on tapping this segment. However, there is a shortage of people who are well-trained to handle customers curious about MICE,” he observed. In this context, he said that Marriott will soon decide on rolling out this programme in the Indian market. Marriott aims to train around 3,000 students under the HE! Programme in the next one year. Started on a pilot basis in Kuoni Academy’s New Delhi centre last August, the programme will be extended to students enrolling for travel courses at all 25 centres of the Academy from January, 2012, said Kapil Srivastava, Regional Head – North & East, Kuoni Academy. He said that a Certification by an international brand like Marriott will enhance the skill sets and employment opportunities of students undergoing training at the Academy.
