NEWS | Starwood to merge North America and Latin America operations into the Americas

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. today announced that it will realign its structure by combining its North America and Latin America operations into the Americas. This move recognises the significant commercial overlap between the two regions and will position both to take advantage of accelerating travel trends within the Americas.
The combination of the two groups also acknowledges Latin America’s significant growth opportunity by creating a better support system and infrastructure to maximise this potential. In 2011, Latin America was Starwood’s fastest growing region in terms of both net rooms and revenue per available room (RevPAR) growth. In addition, the geographic footprint of Starwood Vacation Ownership (SVO) falls entirely within the region, Starwood has made the strategic decision to incorporate SVO into the Americas as well, said a release. Starwood will also elevate its leadership in China. As a part of the organisational changes, the presidents of The Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe, Africa and Middle East, will now report directly to Frits van Paasschen, President and CEO, Starwood. This information was revealed while the company announced the retirement of Matt Avril, President, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.; Denise Coll, President, Starwood North America; and Miguel Ko, Chairman and President, Starwood Asia Pacific. The retirement of these three senior leaders is slated to take place over the next several months allowing for a smooth transition to their successors. All of the new leaders are being promoted from within the company. Sergio Rivera, President and CEO, Starwood Vacation Ownership has been promoted to Co-President, Starwood Americas. Osvaldo Librizzi, President of Latin America will take over as Co-President of the Americas. Stephen Ho, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development, Starwood China, has been promoted to President of Asia Pacific. Qian Jin, Head Operations, Starwood China, will be the President of Greater China. Christie Hicks, Senior Vice President, Starwood Sales Organization will now report directly to Paasschen.
