A portion of terrace garden and a wall of Shimla’s well known heritage hotel, the Oberoi Clarkes collapsed on Tuesday. The damage was triggered by digging works started recently below the hotel to build chambers for Shimla’s lawyers.Hotel owners are worried more landslides could happen down the hill with the arrival of the monsoon, and could even threaten the building, said a report by Business Standard. The 115-year-old Clarkes hotel is the first hotel purchased by Oberoi Group founder M S Oberoi. The Oberoi Group of hotels, founded in 1934, now has 28 luxury hotels and three cruisers in five countries . Some weeks ago, a major section of the road below the hotel had caved in, but the road and wall repair work has not been going on for a while . Besides Clarkes, the Oberoi Group has two more properties in Shimla—Cecil and Wildflower Hall .It is located in the heart of the town, facing the Himachal Pradesh High Court building.
