NEWS | Hotel manager arrested for not informing police about foreign guests

The manager of Shyam Inn hotel in Halol Panchmahal district landed in trouble after he failed to inform the police regarding the stay of foreign nationals at his hotel on Saturday. The Chinese had reported come on a visit to the area for work at a plant to install a machine there. The lapse on the part of the hotel had come to light during a drive by the special operations group (SOG) of the Panchmahal police to check the hotels in the district. Teams of the SOG had conducted surprise checks at various hotels in the district since late Saturday night, informed a report by TOI. At Halol, the teams checked a series of hotels there including Shyam Inn.
It transpired that two Chinese nationals had been staying at the hotel for around a week. It also came to light that all travel documents of these persons were in order. However, the district police had no information regarding the arrival of these persons. As per the Foreigners Act, the hotel should have informed the police within 24 hours regarding the arrival of foreign guests. Sources said that the manager of the hotel Avinash Shetty was arrested for violation of the Foreigners Act and an offence was registered at the Halol police station early on Sunday.
