South Africa-based hospitality company Mantis Collection is set to foray in the Indian market and has entered into a joint venture with ICS Group to develop and operate boutique luxury hotels in the Indian sub-continent and South-East Asia. The Mantis-ICS Group joint venture, to be known as Ayana, is planning to have at least 30 properties under its operation in the next ten years.
The venture will focus on providing hospitality services to high-end boutique hotels and lodges,
primarily in destinations close to nature. "India ranks high among tourism destinations, given the immense biodiversity and the varied landscapes. We are very optimistic about the boutique luxury tourism sector in India and are excited to participate in this growth story," said Graham Moon, CEO, Mantis Development International. The joint venture’s first luxury safari lodge at Pench National Park in India is currently under construction. "We would like to have at least ten operational hotels in the first five years and that number would grow to 30 in over ten years. Each of these properties will be in the range of 10-70 rooms," said Kunal Premnarayen, CEO, ICS Group. According to a report by The Economic Times, Mantis Group currently operates high-end safari lodges in Africa, the Ice Hotel in Sweden, eco-lodges in South America, leisure hotels in Europe and luxury expeditions to Antarctica. In the next few years, the Indian joint venture Ayana will also focus on designing and operating luxury boutique hotels at locations close to the nature and it will aim to have eight properties under management in the next three years, Premnarayen said. As per the report, the company is currently in talks with land owners in Goa, Kerala and Karnataka for setting up luxury boutique hotels there. Apart from India, it is also looking at entering into pacts with land owners in Malaysia, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, he said.
