The success story began 40 years ago: a Portuguese family opened the first Pestana Hotel with 300 rooms on the flower island of Madeira back in 1972. Four decades later the same hotel group now operates 89 properties around the world with more than 9,700 rooms under the brands Pestana Hotels & Resorts and Pousados de Portugal. During this year's Pestana anniversary we will see the inauguration of six new hotels.According to TOPHOTELPROJECTS (www.tophotelprojects.com), the leading research service and online database tool for global hotel construction projects, a further six hotel projects are in their pipeline. According to TOPHOTELCHAINS (www.tophotelchains.com), the global online database with all hotel chains and groups on register, Pestana ranks in 25th position among the largest hotel chains in Europe. Their first hotel in Germany, located in a prime spot next to "Berlin-Tiergarten", opened in August 2011 and enjoys a very good reputation. One year ago the first hotel outside Portugal, the Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel & Spa, opened up in London. By now the Pestana Group is present in ten countries in Europe, South America and Africa. An ambitious hotel project near Lisbon shall become the group's most prestigious landmark: The Pestana Tróia Eco-Resort (150 rooms, TOPHOTELPROJECTS Nr. 11127) located in a nature preserve will open its doors during the coming months. In the Portuguese capital Pestana operates a "Leading Hotel of the World": the Pousada de Cascais is a modern designed luxury hotel inside a former 16th century citadel. More Pestana hotel projects are due to open in Bogotá/Columbia (Pestana Bogotá 100, 82 rooms, opening end of July, TOPHOTELPROJECTS Nr. 14460) and in Casablanca/Morocco (Pestana Hotel Anfaplace, 73 rooms, opening in September, TOPHOTELPROJECTS Nr. 8800). A new Pestana hotel will soon be present in Miami/USA: the Pestana South Beach Art Deco Hotel (99 rooms, TOPHOTELPROJECTS Nr. 14458) will open in October. And finally a new Pousada Hotel in Corvilha/Portugal with 92 rooms will welcome its first guest in December this year.
