The portion of heritage hotel, Oberoi Maidens Hotel also part of an ASI protected monument was recently demolished at New Delhi. According to The Indian Express report, a porch, a hall, and seven to eight rooms were demolished by the municipal agency in-charge of the Civil Lines zone.
According to senior officials of North corporation building department, the hotel encroached upon the tennis court, protected by the ASI. “It is an area of 10,000sqft to 20,000sqft, a built-up area of equal measure will also face demolition,” Mann said.
Corporation Commissioner said an inquiry will be ordered against the officials who allowed the unauthorised construction. “It seems this portion of the hotel was constructed recently. We have constituted an inquiry against the officials,” an official said.
