InterContinental Miami is debuting the first hospitality project by Venus Williams. The tennis star’s firm, V Starr, designed the two new 3,300 square-feet, two-level presidential suites, Royal Palm and Metropolis. Each are distinctively different, honoring the evolution of the contemporary international hot spot. The Royal Palm color scheme is made up of oranges, yellows and whites -- clearly Floridian -- while the Metropolis uses more natural tones of gray and tan hues that convey a more modern city feel. Both are complete with a master bedroom living room, dining room, multi media room and kitchenette to make it comfortable and homey for international road warrior The newly designed presidential suites are only the beginning of a $30 million dollar renovation. The investment by Strategic Hotels & Resorts, the property owners, will make InterContinental Miami the newest hotel product in the area. The new design of InterContinental Miami’s presidential suites, Royal Palm Suite and Metropolis Suite is part of part of a much bigger, multi-million dollar renovation of the downtown Miami hotel that is a long standing anchor of the area. The new InterContinental Miami will introduce a revolutionary use of technology creating a dynamic look that will forever change the Miami skyline, and a new, trend-setting culinary venue. InterContinental Miami will debut its new look and forever change the Miami skyline just in time for Art Basel Miami on Dec. 6 2012, when they officially unveil and "switch on" the lights for the spectacular 19 story digital canvas on the exterior of the building, which will debut that week. InterContinental Miami will debut all the new components of the renovation and officially unveil the Digital Canvas in time for Art Basel Miami. The content will feature the local art and culture scene as a form of contemporary art and will be developed by an in-house curator of digital art. The soul of InterContinental Miami, which will remain the same, is an original Henry Moore 18-foot, 70-ton sculpture, The Spindle, around which the hotel was built in 1982. The museum-worthy travertine marble, multi-million dollar installation is a captivating presence in the lobby, which is also constructed in Italian marble and complimented with precious African wood. Guests and patrons of the hotel are drawn to the contemporary sculpture as they enter the iconic downtown hotel.
