Excited with the response to its state-of-the-art Central Kitchen at Noida, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is mulling over replicating the model in other parts of the country. IRCTC will soon set up a similar food factory in Chennai and is working on having its units in another four metro cities. “We are hopeful that our food factory in Chennai will be inaugurated before June next year,” Pradip Kundu, Joint General Manager, IRCTC,
said.
The company also proposes to set up Central Kitchens in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Mumbai, according to a report in dailypioneer.com. “The principal objective (of these kitchens) is to cater to the demand of high-quality food at reasonable prices to the largely untapped corporate sector,” Kundu said. IRCTC is eyeing big businesses from its Chennai kitchen and other four proposed kitchens because of IT industries and MNCs offices in these cities. At present, the IRCTC’s Central Kitchen at Noida produces 10,000 meals a day. IRCTC plans to increase the capacity to 25,000 meals a day in the second phase, next year.
