NEWS | Taj launches 100th property in India, plans to push 200 by 2018



The Taj Group has launched its 100th hotel in India with Vivanta by Taj, in the Millennium City of Gurgaon and as reported earlier by India Hospitality Review in a previous interaction with Raymond Bickson, MD & CEO of India Hotels Company Ltd plans to push 200 globally by 2018 mainly following an asset light and management contract model for expansion. Out of this 51 are already in the pipeline. The Group currently has 117 hotels globally. The opening of Vivanta by Taj has taken the overall portfolio of Vivanta by Taj – Hotels & resorts to 26 hotels. Built with an investment of Rs 450 crore,
this is Taj’s fourth property in the Delhi-NCR region and brings its total room inventory to 14,00,250 rooms. The Group plans to open another Vivanta by Taj property in Dwarka in 2014. The property will open in two phases with 250 rooms in Phase I and 400 rooms in Phase 2. The hospitality major currently operates in four categories ranging from the luxury brand Taj, upper upscale brand Vivanta by Taj Hotels and Resorts, upscale/mid-market full service hotels and resorts under the Gateway Hotel brand and economy hotels under the Ginger brand. Vivanta by Taj Located 30 kms south of the national capital – New Delhi, close to the business district and recreational hotspots including Kingdom of Dream and the DLF Golf Course along with various city malls, Vivanta by Taj – Gurgaon, an upper-upscale brand starting at Rs 17000 for base level rooms, is aimed at Leisure and MICE segment and flaunts an avant-garde design done by WOW Architects across 189 guest rooms with city and pool views, 18 suites as well as a presidential suite with an executive lounge. The hotel boasts state of the art conferencing facilities and fully furnished banquet halls for business traveller. Every room comes fully equipped with video conferencing facilities, continuous and undisturbed internet access and seating of over 10,000 sqft of meeting spaces. The hotel features the Thai Pavilion - the country’s first signature Thai cuisine restaurant opening in April, Latitude – an all-day diner with an international food theatre, Tease bar, a work and play ‘Rythm’ lounge, Deli 04 – a quick bite bar and Taj’s signature spa Jiva Spa.
