Hull College – Bringing business travel training to the North!

Business travel has grown dramatically over the past 10 years. Many UK business organisations prefer to be serviced in the North as fees are cheaper, and because of this there are a lot of job opportunities becoming available in the region. Virgin Atlantic Fares and Ticketing (Level 1 & 2) are ideal for those keen to start a career in the business travel industry. VA1 is designed to introduce students to the world of the travel industry also incorporating how to price and document various itineraries.

VA2 is specifically geared towards giving students a thorough understanding of fare constructions, calculating and recognising more complex fares. Hull College Travel & Tourism Department has just started to offer these bespoke qualifications aimed at anyone wanting to get ahead in business travel and gain the edge over other applicants for the best jobs in the sector. Sara Jenkinson, Travel & Tourism lecturer at Hull College said, "The new part-time qualifications being offered at Hull College would significantly enhance students'
employability". Working in business travel is very different to working in retail. Products such as flights, hotels, rail tickets and car hire are all booked separately to meet the individual needs of clients. It is a diverse industry with many opportunities to develop and expand your career. Sophie Wilcock, a student at Hull College, currently studying BTEC Level 3 Diploma Travel and Tourism, recently passed her VA1: "I found this course really interesting and enjoyed learning about fares and how to calculate itineraries. It was something completely different to my normal college course. The tutor was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic and it has really made me want a career in business travel".
