Due to unregulated rates charged by cable operators, a few hotels in Mumbai have stopped screening the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
Pradeep Shetty, Spokesperson, Hotel & Restaurant Association, Western India (HRAWI), said, "Whilst TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal) has finalised cable rates for hotels ranging from one to two star with up to 50 rooms, the rates have not been finalised for three-to-five-star hotels and with more than 50 rooms.
Chetan Mehta, Executive Director, The Emerald Hotel & Executive Apartments, which is one of the hotels not running IPL matches on their television, said, "A case has also been filed in the Supreme Court to ensure that TDSAT introduces clear subscription charge guidelines; however, the case is still in progress. Till then, we will not screen those channels for which high rates are being charged, notwithstanding the impact on our business."
