Environmental issues will now be the prime concern for hotel owners in Delhi as thirty five five-star hotels gear up to go the eco-friendly way signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that abides them by the Green Hotels Guidelines with the Delhi Government. Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit was present at the occasion.
The new green measures that are likely to step-up the environmental suitability of the hotels comprise of biologically affluent water treatment plant that treats waste water and makes it fit for-utilization, solar panel for heating water, using bio-degradable fuel as a major source of energy over electricity and natural gas.
However, co-operation from the tourists in maintaining the eco-friendly ambience of the hotel is an area of concern among hotels who want to join the green league. Kannampilly underscores that the eco-friendly nature of the hotel at times is the deciding factor while choosing a hotel. He insists that a technically trained team of hotel staff is necessary to facilitate the green culture at the hotel.
The Green Hotels Guidelines looks forward to optimize the use of resources and rely on more renewable energy resources. Energy auditing and water auditing will be carried out in all the hotels under the MoU with time.
