The UP government has decided to give away five acre land of the tourism department to set up a campus of the Central Institute of Hotel Management in Amethi. The decision was taken by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on 17 June.
The nod comes three days after Congress Vice president Rahul Gandhi announced a hotel management institute in Amethi, his Parliamentary constituency. The institute would be the 22nd Central Institute of Hotel Management in India and the first in UP.
According to an official spokesperson, it was decided by the Cabinet that the land would be provided in Jagdishpur area for erecting the institute with central assistance. The lease period of the land remains 99 years against a token payment of Re 1. The government also said the institute, once established, will run a BSc programme in hospitality and diplomas in food production, food and beverage services and house-keeping.
An announcement to this effect was made by the Congress MP during a program in Amethi during his visit on June 14.
