Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) in their recently held board meeting amended effluent standards and requirements for restaurants, eating houses and other such establishments. Under the new requirements, restaurants up to 100 seat covers connected with Municipal/ Delhi Jal Board Sewer system connected to DJB STPs, are now exempted from installing Effluent Treatment Plants.
However, the general standards of discharge of effluent into public sewers, as mentioned in the standards are to be ensured. Earlier it was mandatory for the restaurants and eating houses having seating capacity of 36 covers to install ETPs. National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) has been making representations to DPCC and the Delhi Government on the same.
Commenting on the above, Mr. Riyaaz Amlani, President, NRAI said, “The association has been actively following up with DPCC and the Delhi Government for changes in the norms for installation of ETPs from 36 covers to 100 covers. We welcome DPCC’s revised norms, in which our suggestion has been implemented and restaurants having capacity of upto 100 seat covers have been relaxed from setting up ETPs (Effluent Treatment Plants).” Click here to read the circular on DPCC Categorisations and Standards for Effluent Treatment System dated 22nd March, 2016.
