The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, which was heavily damaged by gunfire, grenades and fire in the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, expects to completely reopen in May this year.
Although the hotel's tower wing reopened shortly after the siege, the original palace wing, home to its grand ballroom and 297 guest rooms, has been undergoing extensive restoration.
According to a report in TravelWeekly, the hotel has recently reopened the Golden Dragon and Wasabi restaurants as well as the Harbour Bar. Next month, the hotel will reopen its grand ballroom. On May 1, it plans to open refurbished guest rooms.
Built in 1903, the hotel has been a landmark of luxury in Mumbai. More than 160 people, including 12 hotel employees, were killed during the terrorist attacks.
