Indian Hotels reboots by going asset-light
Last month, Tata Sons-promoted Indian Hotels Company, or IHCL, announced its exit from a property in Jaisalmer, the Gateway, which it had managed for the last several years. This was the hotel chain's third exit in four months after it ended management contracts for Gateway properties in Ahmedabad and Jodhpur.

The Tata group controlled Indian Hotels Company, which owns and operates the Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, has decided to discontinue its management contract for The Gateway Hotel Rawalkot Jaisalmer, the company said.

The details are being worked out, but those close to the blueprint shed more light on how the strategy will pan out. Despite poor performance in the fourth quarter of FY 2012/13, TAJGVK Hotels and Resorts Limited (TAJGVK), formed through a strategic alliance between the Hyderabad based GVK Group and Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), remains upbeat on its expansion plans in India.
During Q4, the company’s total income was lower at Rs.64.26 crores as compared to Rs.71.49 crores in the corresponding period last year while Profits before Tax slid down by 88 per cent to Rs. 1.11 crores.
