According to an official spokesperson for the hotel group, Hilton International asked the Foreign Investment Promotion Board for permission to bring in more brands including Doubletree, Hampton, Conrad, and Waldorf Astoria. The hotel firm will seek to amend an existing agreement that allows it to operate a joint venture, DLF. The amendment will allow Hilton to bring in the four other brands as well.
The application submitted to the FIPB also requests permissions to invest into other Indian firms that operate in the tourism or hospitality industry. However, according to sources, the proposal was deferred by the FIPB when it met last month.
Hilton Worldwide has an annual global revenue of more that US $8 billion. The hotel group has more than 3,200 locations in over 80 countries. Hilton International’s portfolio encompasses more than a dozen brand names in the hospitality sector. It is reported that the Indian government had already granted permission for the four brands to come to India.
The hotel firm, which currently operates two properties in Dehli under its JV brand name, is keen to bring other brands into the country. According to a company source, the international hotel firm is exploring prospective partners to further expand in the Indian hotel market.
