Carlson aims 50 Country Inns & Suites hotels in India by 2020

The US-based hospitality firm Carlson today said it plans to operate 50 mid-scale hotels under Country Inns & Suites brand in India in the next ten years.



The company has extended its joint venture agreement with Delhi-based Chanakya Hotels to manage and operate hotels under the brand in the country till December 2020.




The two companies have been operating a joint venture, Country Development and Management Services (CDMS), for the last ten years. While Chanakya Hotels holds 74 per cent stake in the JV and the rest is with Carlson.

"We have renewed our joint venture with Chanakya Hotels for the next ten years and have a target to operate 50 hotels under the mid-scale Country Inns & Suites brand, up from 11 at present," Carlson Hotels South Asia Executive Vice President K B Kachru told PTI.

He said the mid-scale market in India represents a significant opportunity and Country Inns & Suites targets both business and leisure travelers.

Currently, the 11 Country Inns & Suites properties in India have a total of 800 rooms. Out of the total 50 hotels planned, five are scheduled to open in 2011 in Delhi, Mussoorie , Gurgaon , Ajmer and Mysore with a total capacity of 478 rooms.

In ten years, the brand is targetting a total of over 5000 room capacity. Source
