Travelodge becomes London's biggest and vows focus on the suburbs


Budget chain Travelodge today became the largest hotel brand in London by number of rooms, overtaking upmarket rival Hilton.


With the opening of a 99-room hotel in Ealing, Travelodge now has 5,714 rooms in London – which it said has now surpassed the Hilton brand.

Travelodge is aiming to have 50 hotels and nearly 7,000 hotel rooms by the start of the Olympic Games.However the chain said its focus going forward would be on suburban London.

Paul Harvey, managing director of development for Travelodge, said: “Whilst the Olympic Games will undoubtedly provide strong returns for hotel companies, the long-term growth plan for Travelodge is concentrated in London’s suburbs.
