IHG signs four Holiday Inn hotels in the UK
InterContinental Hotels Group has sigend four more Holiday Inn® hotels in the UK: Holiday Inn® Cardiff - North M4 Jct.32, Holiday Inn® London - West, Holiday Inn® London - Heathrow T5 and Holiday Inn® Birmingham North - Cannock.
The first to open will be Holiday Inn® Cardiff - North M4 Jct.32 - opening in just a few weeks’ time.
McDonald's to create 8,000 new jobs in 3 years
Burger giant McDonald’s has pledged to create 8,000 new hospitality jobs across the UK over the next three years, with 70 per cent expected to go to first-time workers and under 25-year-olds.

IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) continues to grow its presence in the UK with the signing of three new hotels – Holiday Inn Huntingdon - Racecourse in Cambridgeshire, Holiday Inn Glasgow Green in Scotland and Holiday Inn - Watford Junction in Hertfordshire.
The first of the three to open will be Holiday Inn Huntingdon - Racecourse , a 98 room new build due to open its doors in quarter three of 2013. The hotel will operate under a franchise agreement with HP Hotels Limited who also own Holiday Inn Express Nuneaton.

Hilton Worldwide announced in the last week the appointment of Paul Malcom as Head of Sales for Europe. After 30 years at Marriott International, Malcom will take over in June 2013 as the Head of Sales Development and Customer Service Platforms from Hilton Worldwide. Malcolm's entry conditions are favorable, with Hilton Worldwide being one of the world's fastest-growing hotel companies; one in five hotel rooms under construction in Europe will open as a brand of Hilton Worldwide.
NEWS | IHG Announces First Staybridge Suites for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), the largest international hotel group in Saudi Arabia both by number of rooms and number of hotels, has signed an agreement with Dyafah Al Mutahida LLC to open a 200-key Staybridge Suites in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This will be the first Staybridge Suites property, offering an extended stay experience, in Saudi Arabia.
Staybridge Suites Hira Street will be located in central Jeddah just 7km from Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport. It will be developed on a 14,700sqm plot and will form part of Dyafah Al Mutahida LLC's mixed-used development including retail outlets, healthcare facilities and a multi-purpose hall.

I've just returned from Barcelona where we held the annual GTMC (Guild of Travel Management Companies) overseas conference entitled 'Are we Ready?'
This year's event was pretty unique for a travel conference, since only two of the speakers came from the travel industry.
Yet the message from everyone, whatever industry they represented, was clear: in order for the UK economy to grow we need to do business and we need to travel to do business – it's called 'business travel'.
Two presenters - neither from the travel sector and independent of one another - said nothing replaces face-to-face business. Video conferencing and Skype just aren't good enough.
Since I arrived at the GTMC at the beginning of the year my mantra has been 'Travel is an investment, not a cost'.
