Jumeirah presses forward with Syria hotel despite unrest

Jumeirah Group will push forward with plans to manage a 5-star hotel in Syria's capital city, despite widespread political unrest in the country.

The Dubai-based company signed a deal with Souria Holding to manage Jumeirah Abraj Souria, a luxury development planned for the Baramkeh area of central Damascus. The luxury 350-key hotel will form part of a mixed-use development, including commercial space, a shopping mall and office tower.
"The project in Syria is moving forward as planned," a Jumeirah spokesperson tells Arabian Business. "We are working with Souriah Holding on the finalization of the full management agreement."
Syria has seen a wave of violent protests aimed at ousting President Bashar Al Assad. Approximately 500 people are estimated to have died during the clashes this year.
