Marriott International, Bethesda, Maryland, announced on Tuesday that its Autograph Collection brand would be adding to its roster six hotels in Europe.
The hotels are part of the Italian-owned Boscolo Hotels chain and will utilize Marriott’s reservation system and brand while remaining independently owned and operated. In September, Marriott will re-brand the 87-room Boscolo Palace Roma in Rome; the 72-room Boscolo Venezia in Venice, Italy; the 152-room Boscolo Prague; and the 185-room Boscolo Budapest in Hungary. The 238-room Boscolo Exedra Roma in Rome and the 154-room Boscolo Milano in Milan, Italy, will follow suit in 2012.
“We started talking to Boscolo many years ago about converting their hotels to one of our brands. However, none of the current Marriott brands seem to fit their unique collection of hotels," Kip Vreeland, vice president of Autograph Collection, said. "After we introduced Autograph Collection we reached out to the Boscolo team with the thought that it was a great concept for their hotels.”
Marriott says the Autograph Collection is expected to grow to include up to 40 independent hotel properties globally by the end of the year.
“Of the remaining 12 hotels we expect and hope to sign by the end of the year, we have two slotted for Europe,” Vreeland said. “However, 2012 should produce more deals as the collection is marketed more and the existing seven Autograph Collection hotels begin to report results. We are hopeful that deals in the U.S., Caribbean, South America and Canada finish off the target of 40 by the year’s end.”
