Gulshan Group plans to start its maiden four-star hotel in the Sunderbans to cater to the growing number of tourists in the region. The Group has already acquired five acres of land at Gosaba's Tiger More, Pakhiralay area where the foundation stone for the project was laid recently. The project would be completed in two phases with a total cost of Rs 150 crore.
Kaustabh Roy, Managing Director, Gulshan Group of Hotels told Express Hospitality, “We are setting up a four-star hotel in Sunderban. The proposed project will be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, we plan to set up 80-90 rooms at an investment of Rs 80 crore.” The proposed hotel which would be called 'The Mark Sunderban' will cater to both the upmarket domestic and international tourists. According to Kaustabh Roy, the first phase of the project is likely to be completed by December 2012. Instead of a high-rise hotel, the property would consist of modern cottages conforming to the latest technical specifications for this fragile zone. “We have applied for all the necessary environmental clearances from the respective agencies. The hotel will conform to all the green-norms,” said Roy, further adding, “The work on the second phase of the project will be taken up once we get the necessary environmental and other clearances.” Speaking about the total time the project would take to complete, Kaustabh Roy said, “By August 2013, we plan to develop 128 rooms of the hotel.” Of the total cost of the project, 20 per cent will be funded through internal accruals and the remaining through borrowings from banks and FIs.
