NEWS | Day one of Hi-Aim addresses key areas of hotel development in India

The first day of Hotel Industry – Architecture, Interior Design, Management (Hi-Aim) 2012, held in New Delhi, yesterday, was well attended with people from the hospitality, design and architecture business from India and abroad attending the event. The day one saw four major sessions with key players and industry professionals discussing, meeting and presenting the way forward for the industry. Focusing on the hospitality industry of the country,
Shivendra Tomar, Managing Director - Tourism Finance Corporation of India Ltd said, “This summit give everyone from the hospitality industry a chance to address key areas in hotel development but other related aspects also like design and architecture. This gives us and other from the industry like us to address and discuss critical issues in design and architecture development in the country and a way to move forward in a beneficial manner.” The session one focused on brands open to adapting to Indian conditions moderated by Homi Aibara, Partner, Mahajan and Aibara who steered the discussions among Dilip Puri, Managing Director, Starwood Hotels and Resorts; Lokesh Sabharwal, Vice President-Development, Accor; Suresh Mathur, COO, JHM International and K B Kachru Executive Vice President, Carlson Hotels. “It is not only foreign brands that are coming and adapting to Indian design and architectural sensibilities but Indian brands have also cut across and have made their presence felt in the global design platform,” said Aibara. The session two threw light on the ‘State of Hospitality Architecture in the Indian Context’ with a panelists Suneet Pal, Editor in Chief, Architecture Design Magazine; Sohrab Dalal, Managing Director, Designplus Architecture; Patti Seay, Director of Architecture and Design, Hyatt International South West Asia; Anil Sharma, Founder, Anil Sharma Associates and Hi Aim 2012, and Mark Kowalski, Architect, WATG Design Destination. Sharma said, “India is the master of reincarnation and using local materials considering different states, while also being open to new opportunities and technology in the global sphere of design. Many international brands are also coming in to support Indian brands.”
