Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInBev) has launched Budweiser Magnum in India. This India-specific beer is priced at Rs 150 for a 650 ml bottle in Maharashtra; the highest-priced strong beer in the country.
India’s premium strong beer segment has seen several new entrants in Carlsberg's Tuborg Strong and SABMiller's Foster's Strong. Unlike other beer markets, strong beer dominates the Indian market. Soren Lauridsen, Managing Director,
Carlsberg, said, “Between January and April 2012, strong beer's contribution expanded from 80 per cent of the market to 85 per cent." "Mild beer is stagnating and much of the growth is coming from the strong beer segment," Lauridsen added. Anheuser-Busch pitched its presence in India by launching Budweiser in Andhra Pradesh in 2007. The following year, InBev launched Tennet's beer in a joint venture (JV) with PepsiCo's bottler Ravi Jaipuria. When the two giants merged globally in 2009, ABInBev became a 49:51 JV partner with Jaipuria's RJ Corp, informed a ET report by Sarah Jacob. The JV operates two breweries in Hyderabad and Pune.
