In order to promote India as an all-season destination, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Govt. of India, along with various travel associations is planning to organise road shows in both traditional and non-traditional markets. These road shows are planned in partnership with industry associations like Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO),
Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA). MoT along with IATO will organise road shows in the USA and Canada next month. These road shows will commence from September 10, in the city of Phoenix in Arizona and will cover San Francisco and Seattle in the US, before going to Vancouver in Canada. According to sources in the MoT, Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister for Tourism, Govt. of India will lead the delegation for the road shows. Through these road shows India Tourism intends to highlight and promote India as an 'all season destination', the official informed. About 25 Indian tour operators are expected to participate in these road shows. "This is the appropriate time to hold road shows in the US and Canada, because these markets are coming out of the economic slowdown. We need to sensitise the market to improve inbound tourism from these traditional markets," said Pranab Sarkar, Managing Director, Swagatam Tours, a participant in the road show. Sanjiv Joshi, Managing Director, Tourism India Management Enterprise (TIME) expressing similar opinion said that despite the slowdown, travel sentiments in the US and Canada are still good, unlike in Europe. "These road shows are happening in select cities which are so far explored by India," he informed. MoT along with PATA will be organising road shows in Australia and New Zealand from October 1-4, 2012. These road shows will be held in Sydney and Melbourne in Australia and Auckland in New Zealand. According to Jatinder S Taneja, Treasurer, PATA India Chapter, about 25 suppliers from India will participate in the three-city road show. "These markets are highly potential markets for inbound tourism and the numbers are growing year-on-year," he said. The focus, according to Taneja, will be on Wellness Tourism.
