Restaurants and bars across India will remain shut on April 29, 2013 to protest against the newly imposed Service Tax on sale of food by Air-Conditioned (AC) eateries. The decision was taken on Monday in a joint meeting among various associations of restaurants and bars.
“We have requested the government many times to do away with this tax, but in vain. This tax is over and above VAT. It is the customers who will have to face the brunt of this heavy taxation,” said Bharat Malkani, Joint Secretary, Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI).
