InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) celebrated graduation of the first
batch of students from the IHG Academy programme at Institute for International
Management & Technology (IIMT) in Gurgaon. The group of 27 students who graduated
in September 2013, have already found placements at leading hotels across the
country, with four of the graduating
students joining IHG’s management trainee (I-Grad) and supervisors programmes
(I-Host).
The objective of the IHG Academy partnership with IIMT is to train and develop students with the right
skills to support IHG’s rapid growth in India.
Commenting on the IHG Academy programme Douglas Martell, IHG’s Vice President Operations, South West Asia said,
“The objective of IHG Academy is
to attract and foster talent into the hospitality industry by developing,
training and motivating people to work in our hotels and deliver better service
to guests. It’s a pleasure
to be associated with IIMT and we are extremely impressed with the quality of
students here. The aim of our partnership is to ensure we
have talented people with real experience gained at our hotels, who we can then
employ as we grow our business. This creates local economic opportunity and a great
talent pool for all our hotels in India.”
IIMT benefits
from this partnership through a range of initiatives including IHG guest
lecturers and mentors on campus; work experience placements for students at IHG
hotels; sponsorship of campus facilities as well as the opportunity to connect
students with a range of employment options when they finish their studies.
This partnership with IIMT supports the industry’s need for a growing number of
talented professionals in the coming years.
The IHG Academy helps builds sustainable communities
around IHG’s 4600 hotels worldwide, improving employability and creating job
opportunities. Participants who go
through the IHG Academy come from all walks of life and range from university
graduates through to disadvantaged young people, reflecting the range of
careers, as well as opportunity for progression, available at IHG. In total we have over 200 IHG Academy
programmes around the world and more than 10,000 participants have received
training so far. IHG runs 12 IHG Academy programmes across India across Mumbai,
