The Holiday Inn Winchester in the UK was recently turned into an impromptu theatre location for a theatrical performance with the Theatre Royal Winchester bringing the Dante or Die production of ‘I Do’ into the hotel to present a ‘real time’ performance in a real location.
The play gave the audience a dramatic ‘fly on the wall’ peek into the lives of a wedding party, set in six of the hotel’s guestrooms, just 10 minutes before a couple say ‘I Do.’ Two plays each day were performed with the audience divided between the six rooms to see six separate scenes being performed simultaneously.
Known as promenade theatre, the audience groups moved from room to room and scene to scene to see the story unfold and to experience performances by the cast in a very intimate setting. -
