Swiss hospitality major Movenpick Hotels and Resorts is in advanced talks to set up resort hotels in Udaipur and Jaipur.
“When finalised in a couple of months, these hotels (Udaipur and Jaipur) will be open for business in less than three years,” Biswajit Chakraborty, General Manager, Movenpick Bangalore, said.
“In India, company has a deliberate policy to manage hotels (not less than 30 years old) and not own the properties we operate,” he added.Movenpick plans to open its first resort hotel in the country at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh later this year.
Apart from this, we are doing equally well in banquets,” he added.Talking about hotel sector scenario in Bangalore, Chakraborty said, “A combination of factors is determining the room rates in the city. IT sector is not performing well and companies have resorted to cost cutting. Some IT companies have begun re-negotiating rates. Other than IT, the city is witnessing some amount of activity in aerospace sector.”
The hotel company is owned by Movenpick Holding (66.7 per cent) and Kingdom Group (33.3 per cent). Besides India, the company plans to add 30 properties and are in different phase of construction in Ankara, (Turkey), Dubai (four projects - UAE); Abu Dhabi (three projects - UAE), Shanghai (China).
