Cleartrip.com has launched a new section called Small World www.cleartrip/smallworldon its website which offers travel guides and tips on 3.2 million destinations across the word. According to a report in Hindustan Times, for each, the site provides details on the cheapest flight from India, average hotel rates, temperature, local time, sights to visit, restaurants to go to, entertainment, Visa requirements and other tips, along with pictures. For each destination, ten recommended eating, shopping and entertainment spots are mentioned, and the company plans to further increase the number. One can also book hotels, flights and pan-India trains through the site.

Cleartrip has launched a new website www.cleartrip.ae to serve travellers in the UAE. With a full product offering customised for the UAE market, Cleartrip chose the 'Arabian Travel Mart 2010', which concluded recently, to announce its first foray outside Indian online travel market.

NEWS| 53 lakh tourists visited India in 2008

India's tourism sector has grown by 6 per cent with 5.3 million arrivals in 2008, despite the global slowdown hitting the tourism industry worldwide.






In 2007, 50.8 lakh tourists had thronged India.

"While the global average of growth was about 2 per cent, Indian tourism sector grew to 53 lakh arrivals in 2008," Tourism Joint Secretary Leena Nandan told reporters on the sidelines of a FICCI conference in New Delhi.

This has helped India get Rs 50,730 crore worth of foreign exchange in 2008 compared with Rs 44,260 crore in 2007, up about 14 per cent, she added.

NEWS| BCD signs deal with Taj Hotels

Travel management company BCD Travel has signed a two-year contract with Indian hotel company Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces. The five-star Indian-owned hotel group will become one of BCD’s preferred hotel partners in the Asia-Pacific region.

Jason Harris, BCD’s senior director for hotel relations, said he was “delighted” to have secured the deal. “Everyone is aware of the hotel availability issues in India so we need to be at the forefront of relationships with hotels such as Taj,” he said. “India is a key emerging market and business travel traffic is constantly growing.”
