Private equity firm Clearwater Capital has made gains of two times by selling its entire 27.16% in Vadodara-based Sayaji HotelsBSE 1.87 % to promoters of the hotel chain for Rs 61.85 crore. Clearwater Capital has exited Sayaji Hotels at a price of Rs 130 per share versus initial investment of Rs 66 per share.

NEWS| Barbeque Nation opens its first outlet in Delhi
Barbeque Nation, an initiative of the Sayaji Hotels Limited (SHL), has opened its first Delhi outlet on 7th March, 2008. SHL opened its first restaurant in Mumbai in 2006. It has outlets in cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurgaon and Chennai.The Delhi outlet at Janakpuri, is spread over two floors with a total floor area of 5,800 sq ft. The 170 cover restaurant will have live display kitchens and bar counters on both the floors. Being an international concept, each table has a ‘live grill’, where guests can prepare their food by marinating barbeques with their preferred marinades.
Barbeque Nation’s new restaurant offers 90 per cent cooked barbeques. Guests can marinate and cook the rest, according to their taste. “The choice of grills is drawn from Pan Asian, Oriental, Mediterranean and Continental cuisines,” says Prosenjit Roy Chowdhury, CEO, Barbeque Nation.
The outlet’s rustic design is in keeping with the European Country Home concept. The restaurant offers a menu comprising of five vegetarian and non-vegetarian barbeque starters with unlimited helpings, a main course buffet, soups, salads, desserts and a variety of liquors.

NEWS| Sayaji Hotels to hive off restaurant business
Chennai: The Rs 44 crore ($1.1 million) Sayaji Hotels Ltd has decided to hive off its Barbeque Nation restaurant chain for more focussed and accelerated growth, the hotel group's top officials have said."As per our plans the restaurant business would require around Rs 250 crore by the end of the financial year 2008-09. We are looking out for private equity to the tune of Rs 50 crore," Sajid Dhanani, managing director of the hotel group, told IANS.
Dhanani, who was here to open the Barbeque Nation restaurant Wednesday, did not specify the timeframe by which the hive-off would happen.
According to him, the restaurant business will have a minimum value of Rs 250 crore.
While that is for the future, opening five Barbeque Nation restaurants till date - two in Bangalore and one each in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Chennai - Sayaji Hotels has plans to grow the business to 100 restaurants by the end of fiscal 2009-10, Dhanani said.
"We will have a pan India presence. We also have enquiries for opening outlets in Singapore, Britain and Dubai," said Prosenjit Roy Choudhury, CEO Barbeque Nation, who was present at the function.

NEWS| Sequoia acquires stake in Sayaji
Ruane, Cunniff & Goldfarb, an investment firm that founded US-based venture capital firm Sequoia, has acquired a 5.41 per cent stake in Sayaji Hotels, through the secondary market. Sequoia might increase the stake up to .... 10 per cent. “We are speaking to various players, but it’s too early to comment,” says Sajid R Dhanani, Managing Director, Sayaji Hotels.
Sayaji Hotels is constructing a new hotel in Pune. Its subsidiary, Sanchi Hotels, which runs the Barbeque Nation chain, is also in expansion mode. The group plans to have 49 restaurants by the end of FY09.
