NEWS| Barista to expand with 25 more outlets
The country's second largest coffee chain, Barista Lavazza, is planning to invest Rs 12 crore during the second half of the current financial year to open 25 outlets across the country. It is looking at expansion in Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Goa and Assam. The company is looking at increasing its revenues by Rs 100 crore during this financial year, compared to Rs 200 crore during FY09.
"We are looking at a revenue of Rs 300 crore by the end of this financial year," said Sanjay Coutinho, CEO, Barista Coffee Company.
Barista Lavazza is also planning to introduce around 30 varieties of coffee for three months starting this November as part of its winter line

NEWS| IHC acquires Pizza Hut franchise in central India
India Hospitality Corp, which has made significant investments in hospitality and air catering businesses in India, has acquired the franchise for Pizza Hut brand for central India from its current owner for an undisclosed amount.
The transaction, which is yet to get approval from Pizza Hut's parent company Yum Brands, could translate into a significant slice of business for IHC, since central India is under serviced and the existing franchisee (Entertainment World Developers or EWDPL) managed to open only an outlet each in Bhopal and Indore till now.
In contrast, the franchisee for Pizza Hut in north and east India -- Ravi Jaipuria -- has already managed to open close to 60 outlets and is expanding further.

You can expect quick-fix solutions not just for your bad hair days, but also for your rumbling stomach from CavinKare. The Rs 700-crore shampoos-to-snacks FMCG major is planning a Rs 300-crore restaurant chain in the next three years.
The company entered the restaurant business in July with its fast food offering CK’s Foodstraunt in Pondicherry. On Friday, it launched its second restaurant Vegnation in Chennai that dishes out vegetarian north and south Indian fare.
"We will try three more restaurant formats, all of which should be in place by June 2010. We will grow the business in the models that prove successful and start franchising them in the next six to twelve months," CavinKare chairman & MD CK Ranganathan said.

Kaati Zone, the leading Indian quick-service restaurant (QSR) chain owned by the East-West Ethnic Foods Private Ltd, has rolled out a total make-over initiative. It has already invested Rs 25 lakh to revamp and offer a new menu. Another Rs 13 crore is pumped in to offer different formats like Dine-in, Delta (Delivery & Takeaway) & Express locations at airports, stations, malls, tech parks and petrol stations. It is also all set to launch operations in Mumbai. Over the next two years, Kaati Zone will be present prominently in southern and western regions.
There will be a brand new logo and a new menu will kick-off at its flagship outlet on Church Street, Bangalore. “Kaati Zone so far has been putting up the building blocks for growth in place, now we are at an inflection point from where we can rapidly expand. We have not yet capitalised the opportunities at Bangalore which houses all 12 outlets. Going forward, we will enter a new city with company owned stores, build the brand awareness and provide proof of concept before moving ahead with franchising,” Kiran Nadkarni, Founder and CEO, KaatiZone, told F&B News in an email interaction.
